A day in the life of… Luis Mur

Luis is General Manager for Records. Prior to FLYdocs his background included working for leading retailers such as Tesco, with responsibility for adopting quality control processes.

Originally from Madrid, Luis speaks 4 languages fluently – he is currently well on his way to cracking Mandarin Chinese too! This ability to communicate in different languages is a big help in Luis’ role helping our clients to adopt new work processes and quality control systems when FLYdocs is introduced all across the world. He spends most of his time on site with clients and is currently in Australia working on a project for Qantas.

Over to Luis then, as he talks us through a day in his life at FLYdocs (in English)..!

0715hrs – Healthy body, healthy mind so to prepare for the busy day in front of me I slot in a 45 minute run around beautiful Sydney. There are certainly worse places to work out!

0800hrs – After a shower and some breakfast, I arrive at the Qantas office in Sydney.

0830hrs – Grab a coffee and meet with their technical team to discuss how they are getting on adopting FLYdocs systems and processes.

1000hrs – There are a few issues that need ironing out with the team so I spend the next 3hrs working out how we can adapt process to suit Qantas ways of working.

1300hrs – Answer a few emails from Lan Airlines with questions about an upcoming project. This is the great thing about having global clients – while the LAN guys are asleep I can continue to support them, so they see progress overnight. I am about to move over to Chile for a period to help introduce FLYdocs to them and with the trip shaping up well, I head online and book my flights – time to break out the frequent flyer card again!

1345hrs – Lunchtime. Grab a bite to eat and hook up to my headphones for a 30 minute Mandarin test. I did ok but there’s still a lot of work to do.

1415hrs – Back in with the Qantas technical team to provide some more guidance and advice on best practice and process management. The team seem pleased with how it’s going and our advice, which is good news.

1530hrs – Armed with the knowledge from today’s meetings, it’s time to prepare a debrief for Qantas senior management.

1630hrs – Catch up with Qantas compliance manager who is checking how we are getting on. The meeting goes well except for a few minor workflow process details that need adapting.

1800hrs – Time to wrap up for the day. Tonight I’m going out in Sydney with members of Qantas team and am looking forward to a great meal on the waterfront in excellent company.

2200hrs – Get back to my apartment and jump onto a Skype call with Lan Airlines Group in Chile to pick up on some of the points from my lunchtime emails (and also chat about family and football, the real business of our call!) The thought of doing my job without Skype and other communications tools like this is frankly impossible to contemplate, so I’m grateful for technology!

2230hrs – Finally, I strap my headphones back on for more Mandarin tuition, followed by watching some sport on TV. Football or basketball are top of the league for me – despite being based in Oz I just can’t get into cricket!

2330hrs – Lights out following another day full of challenges and rewards. It’s great to see the Qantas team beginning to adapt and adopt the FLYdocs way of doing things successfully.
