How a leading carrier enhanced their operations with strategic consultancy from flydocs
At flydocs, we’ve spent more than 15 years partnering with many of the world’s leading airlines and lessors to digitise aircraft records, optimise asset management, and navigate complex operational challenges. In response to the evolving needs of our customers, we expanded our offering last year with the launch of flydocs Professional Services.
Our latest blog takes a deep dive into how flydocs helped a customer optimise its digital records through advanced platform integration, supported by the strategic expertise of our Professional Services team.
About the Carrier
The low cost, short-to-medium-haul European carrier has a fleet size of 80+ aircraft. The immediate challenge was consolidating fragmented record-keeping, reducing the reliance on paper and external storage, and deep-tier M&E integration.
The Challenge
The airline was using the records platform primarily as a digital repository and search engine, leaving significant advanced functionality untapped:
- Aircraft Technical Records were spread across multiple systems, including an M&E platform, the records platform, and third-party share drive accounts.
- Transition and audit processes were manually managed or managed by external parties, leading to a risk of data discrepancies and duplication of effort.
- Heavy reliance on paper documents continued at some maintenance stations.
- Core modules within the platform were either deactivated or rarely used.
The Solution
Identifying the right technology is only the first part of the picture, getting real value requires the right expertise. flydocs Professional Services Strategic Consultancy, partnered with the customer, assessed the current landscape to create a strategic roadmap for comprehensive digital transformation. The Professional Services team developed a phased adoption plan and business process workshop to move technical records into a fully integrated digital ecosystem, including:
- System Consolidation: Migrating all records into a single centralised platform to eliminate the use of external repositories like shared drives.
- M&E Integration: Supporting the customer with upgrades to their M&E system to allow for improved data flow between platforms.
- Automated Lease Management: Introducing the Lease Asset Management (LAM) product to track return conditions and investigate Electronic Technical Logbook (ETLB) readiness.
- Targeted Pilot Program: Trialling full platform capabilities on a single aircraft transition in 2026 to prove the value of structured auditing and quality control.

The Professional Services team provided consultancy support for scoping the new integration change, covering the requirements, dependencies and technical approach. By unlocking underutilised tools, the airline is positioned to achieve the following:
- Enhanced Data Integrity: Eliminating fragmented storage reduces the risk of data loss and ensures a complete audit trail.
- Operational Time Savings: Automated data feeds and centralised searching are expected to significantly reduce manual document validation time.
- Improved Lessor Trust: Moving from manual spreadsheets and share drives to a structured digital platform reduces compliance risks during aircraft transitions.
- Financial Risk Mitigation: By bringing these together, the customer was also confident in an improved transition redelivery outcome, resulting in better communication paths, along with a reduced risk of late delivery penalties.
Lee Smith, Aviation Solutions Partner at flydocs, says:
A common thing we see isn’t a broken process, it’s an established one that stopped being questioned. This customer wasn’t short of the right tools; they were short of a reason to look at how they were using them. That’s usually where the biggest gains are hiding.
In an era defined by rapid digital transformation, mounting regulatory pressures, and the relentless pursuit of efficiency, we know airlines and lessors require support that transcends tools. flydocs, part of the Lufthansa Technik Digital Tech Ops Ecosystem, possesses a deep understanding of the nuances of commercial aviation operations, plus our position at the intersection of data, compliance and asset value, makes us your ideal trusted partner.
